Posted Jun 3, 2010 By Tanya M. UrsualEMC Lifestyle - Please join us this Saturday, June 5, between 1:30 - 4 p.m. at the Courtyard Cafe at Davidson's Courtyard in Smiths Falls. We will be offering coffee and dessert to all visitors. There are over 40 kittens at LAWS right now with more arriving every day. The purpose of this event is to raise awareness of the importance of spaying and neutering our pets. We are asking for donations of "kitten friendly" gifts for our Kitten shower.
LAWS' famous Foodsmiths Dog Wash scheduled for Saturday, June 19
It's back! The LAWS Dog Wash is scheduled for Saturday, June 19 at Foodsmiths of Perth. Not only is this one of our most famous events but it is also one of our most fun! Dogs come from far and wide to be bathed, brushed, pampered, petted, loved and fluffed up by LAWS' very own volunteer team.
Wish list
Our faithful old window air-conditioner units have finally called it quits. This week we are looking for two window air conditioner units - one for the cat runs, and one for the kitten nursery. During the dog days of July and August, our shelter can get extremely warm and the a/c units help tremendously to make the animals more comfortable. If anyone has a window a/c unit they are not using we would be extremely grateful for the donation. Please contact our shelter manager Jennifer at 613-283-9308 if you can help.
Happy endings note
"We are the family that adopted Nemo, the Chocolate Lab. Nemo has adjusted to our family life... If you recall, we are the ones who travelled five hours to get him. During the ride home, he crawled into the back seat of our van with my oldest son, rested his head on his lap and slept most of the way and he's made himself at home ever since. He loves to run around our back yard, go for long walks and play with other dogs at the dog park, oh yeah, and he really loves his food too!"
Congratulations Nemo!
This week's pets
Moose is not the most handsome or outgoing cat at LAWS, but he is a sweet boy who deserves a second chance. Moose arrived back in December and, because of his shy nature, has been missed by potential adopters. This one-year-old, short-haired, neutered, black and white male cat spends most of his days sleeping in his basket. We have discovered that he enjoys being petted and will drool with delight when he gets a little attention. Moose doesn't require much other than a water bowl, kibble bowl, litter box, annual vet check and the occasional scratch behind the ears. In a loving home he is sure to thrive and you will be giving a much-deserving animal a second chance.
Harpo is ready to find his new forever home. This two-month-old kitten is an orange Tabby with white, short-hair and male. Harpo has had his first vaccination but adopters will be responsible for all future vaccinations. In a few months time, Harpo will be ready to be neutered and his new adoptive family will be provided with a voucher to have this done. Until then, Harpo just needs lots of love, play time, cuddling, good nutrition as he grows to become a beautiful, affectionate, feline companion.
Skip is a three-year-old, tan and white, Beagle Mix with a loving personality. He is neutered and vaccinated and ready to find a new home. This lovely Hound is energetic and enthusiastic and will need a home with a fenced yard. Skip is good with cats and children and other dogs. He has all the potential to be a wonderful canine companion and just needs to find a family willing to provide him with training, love and security.
Puppies: LAWS presently has a number of puppies available for adoption. The puppies are nine weeks old and are Golden Retriever/Bernese Mountain Dog Mix. Please contact our shelter manager Jennifer to obtain an application form. Potential adopters should have knowledge or experience with puppies and be familiar with the needs of this breed(s).
