Perth receives $2,950

EMC News - The Town of Perth has installed a projector and interactive SmartBoard in the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) that combines the power of a projector, computer and whiteboard. This technology brings a projected image to the SmartBoard's touch-sensitive screen and allows users to control applications, write notes and navigate websites with just one touch of a finger.

The Emergency Management Program Committee (EMPC) members will now be able to view, as a whole, current and accurate information during an emergency that will aide in making informed decisions during an emergency.

The purchase of this equipment would not have been possible without the assistance of the Joint Emergency Preparedness Program (JEPP) and the approved federal funding amount of $2,950 (45 per cent). The town contributed the remaining $3,950 (55 per cent).

"This new technological tool will improve communication by making it faster and more accurate, " said Perth Deputy Mayor John Gemmell.

The town's EMPC submitted a proposal to receive federal funding under JEPP for "Telecommunications Systems and Equipment" to purchase and install this new technological equipment in the EOC.

"We would like to thank Emergency Management Ontario (EMO) and Public Safety Canada (PSC) for their assistance and support in this project," said Pat Capello, Chief of Police.

JEPP is a national program initiated by the federal government and is designed to enhance the national emergency response capability. It is a joint undertaking with the provinces/territories, and is administered at the federal level by Public Safety Canada (PSC).
