Perth and Lanark Bantam B1's win two in a row
Posted Feb 4, 2010 By Bret HogueEMC Sports - The Perth and Lanark Bantam B1's are on a definite winning streak! Coming off a win over West Carleton Jan. 12, with a final score of 7-0, the B1's proved again that they are the better team by beating Osgoode in Lanark Jan. 19.
The first period was off to a roaring start when straight off the opening face-off, forward Alex Brady scored the Wings' first goal in the first few seconds of the game.
Osgoode attempted to return the favour but were foiled when Perth center, Patrick Pankow, poked the puck away from one of the Osgoode forwards, keeping him from taking a shot on Perth's net. At around the seven minute mark, Tommy Somerville scored a goal by flipping the puck high into the net. Two nothing for Perth. Later in the period, goalie Kyle Brown made a beautiful save, despite being swarmed by two of Osgoode's players. The Wings almost ended the period with a third goal when defenceman Jon Tysick fired a shot from the point, but was robbed by the Osgoode goalie.
The excitement continued in the second period as the B1's displayed some nice passing between Matthew Norton and Tommy Somerville. Defenceman Ryan Lowe let loose a slapshot at Osgoode's net, but missed by a hair. With four minutes left in the period, Matthew Norton also snapped off a great shot, and garbage man Michael Kevan picked up the rebound for a goal - garbage is good! Alex Brady gave Osgoode a rough time at the boards, and Logan Saunders made a nice pass to Brady in front of Osgoode's net but the Osgoode goalie came up big. In the closing seconds of the second period, Perth forward Matthew Norton launched a rocket at the Osgoode goaltender who made the initial stop, but Tommy Sommerville was there to pick up the trash. Osgoode scored two goals in the second period, one on a breakaway.
Early in the third period, goalie Aaron Dyer stuffed Osgoode with two beautiful saves. Shortly afterwards, Tommy Sommerville capitalized on a bad line change by Osgoode and took off down the ice, scoring Perth's fifth and final goal of the game with 8:54 left in the game. With about four minutes left to play, the Wings received the first penalty of the game then moments later followed it up with the second penalty of the game. Now with a two man advantage and the face off in the Perth zone, Osgoode put the pressure on. Perth showed their grit and played the triangle defence to near perfection. Final score - Perth B1's 5, Osgoode 2. Well done, boys!
