Undaunted by the chilly weather, Lanark residents flocked to the Lanark Arena and the Civitan Club January 30 and 31, for the annual Frosty Fling celebration. Activities such as a costume contest and free skate took place at the Arena on Saturday, while Sunday's schedule at the Civitan boasted games, free hot chocolate and hot dogs, and a slide down the man-made tobogganing hill. Below, face painting was among the many activities which took place at the Lanark Arena Jan. 30.

EMC Events - Feb. 15 is Heritage Day, and to celebrate local heritage, the previous day, Sunday, Feb. 14, Almonte author Brent Connelly will be celebrating our heritage at Nature Lover's Bookshop spinning tales from the Ottawa Valley, tales such as those found in his books Holy Ole Whistlin' - Yarns about Algonquin Park Loggers, Finer than Hair on a Frog- More Yarns about Loggers and the Like and his recently released Off in a Cloud of Heifer Dust that includes stories from Perth to Almonte to Pembroke to Allumette.

Brent Connelly spent nearly 40 years as a forester in Ontario's Algonquin and Lake Superior Parks. During that time, he met many colourful characters with some wonderfully entertaining stories, which he has captured and related in his most entertaining first two books.

A few months ago, he published the third book of tales.

Come to Nature Lover's Bookshop at 62 George St., Lanark Village, between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to sit around over a cup of tea with Brent and swap some tales of your own.
