Vegetarian food fair promotes healthy eating

EMC Events - A veritable smorgasbord of food awaited those who attended the third annual Vegetarian Food Fair on Sunday, Nov. 29. The Food Fair, sponsored by the Perth Seventh Day Adventist Church, provided each guest with samples from a varied selection of delectable homemade vegetarian foods. Information about the different types of vegetarians, as well as recipes for many of the dishes were also available.

Cheryl Ferrier offers guests a choice between two kinds of delicious vegetarian chili at the third annual Vegetarian Food Fair on Sunday, Nov. 29. The Food Fair, sponsored by the Perth Seventh Day Adventist Church.
The Perth Seventh Day Adventist Church is also a sponsor for the Coronary Health Improvement Project (CHIP), a 30-day program promoting healthy eating and exercise which tracked participants' progress towards maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The Project, an annual event, took place in October, and the results were made available to guests at the Food Fair on Sunday. On average, each participant lost 9.4 lbs, LDL Cholesterol dropped 15 per cent, blood pressure was lowered, and pulse rates dropped from 79 BPM to 68 BPM. Vegetarianism was not a requirement of the program.
SAMPLE RECIPE PROVIDED AT FOOD FAIR:
MUSHROOM BURGERS
2 eggs, beaten
2 cups finely chopped mushrooms
* cup dry bread crumbs
* cup nutritional yeast flakes
* cup onion, chopped
º cup flour
* tsp garlic powder
º tsp thyme
1tbsp soy sauce
Combine all ingredients.
Drop by the spoonful into an oiled pan and flatten. Brown on each side.
